- Description
- This is a SOURCES SOUGHT for an electron beam welding system (called herein EB welder). The EB welder will be used in the reclamation of AGT 1500 gas turbine engine components requiring high vacuum electron beam welding. Many of the turbine parts that need to be welded are inconel 625, nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloys, aluminum, and stainless steel with the largest of these parts comprising a header with a weight of 400 lbs, 30 inches in diameter, and 6 inches deep. The header would have corresponding axial and radial welds throughout the part. The EB welder shall be new (not a prototype) and contain all new components. The design shall include features and components necessary for accomplishing electron beam welding in a vacuum environment. The EB welder shall consists of not less than a vacuum chamber, vacuum pumping system, run-out table, rotary table with tilt capacity, electron gun, power supply, computer numerical system, control station with monitor(s), pneumatic system, coolant system, electrical system, wire feed mechanism, and precision optical viewing system. The control system should be a true CNC (computer numerical control) without any Microsoft Windows based software applications controlling the welding process. A PC with windows based applications may be utilized only as a GUI (graphical user interface). The CNC system shall control all machine operating components and systems, including linear and rotational axes. The machine and its numerical control system shall constitute a completely functional system with programmable operations that generate reproducible welding on a production basis. All parts subject to wear, breakage, or distortion shall be readily accessible for adjustment, replacement, calibration, and repair. All structural, mechanical, and electrical systems and subsystems to include all of the components and software that comprise the EB welder shall be manufactured and serviceable by the original O.E.M. (Original Equipment Manufacturer). The EB welder shall include the capability of manual welding (direct operator control) and automatic welding (CNC pre-programmed commands). Installation is to be complete and equipment operational within 420 calendar days after contract is awarded. All responsible sources that can perform the delivery of the appropriate equipment, interested companies are requested to provide brochures, literature, published prices lists, contact name and number, not later than 31 October 2010. Information must be submitted electronically. Information may be faxed to 256-235-6353 or sent to Heather Robinson at heather.p.robinson@us.army.mil. This is a sources sought synopsis. Do not request a solicitation.
