- Request for Information (RFI) on Near Term Laser Technologies The Air Armament Center (AAC) at Eglin AFB, FL is requesting information describing concepts for an airborne high-energy laser weapon system. The emphasis of this effort is to identify mature, low-risk opportunities. Responses to this Request For Information (RFI) will be used by the U.S. Government to perform studies and analyses of the cost, schedule and potential technical risks in development of an acquisition strategy. This RFI is for prime contractors who would serve as laser weapon integrators as well as companies that can supply major sub-systems to the prime contractor. This RFI consists of two parts. This announcement is considered Part I; the only submission required for this Part I submission is a contractor's CAGE code. Part II is an addendum to Part I which will include the detailed requirements from the Government, needed to submit the requested information. Contractor responses (primes and potential sub-contractors) should include a statement of capability (SOC), technical approach, rough order of magnitude (ROM) (hours) and a draft schedule for delivery. To receive Part II, contractors must submit their CAGE code information to John Cserep at john.cserep@eglin.af.mil and Erik Saladin at erik.saladin@eglin.af.mil by 19 November 2010 at 1500 hours CST. Contractors must be able to handle classified U.S. Government information up to Secret level. This RFI is for planning purposes only and shall not be considered as a request for proposal (RFP) or as an obligation on the part of the U.S. Government to acquire any products or services. The U.S. Government does not plan to award a contract based on the responses from this RFI or otherwise pay for the information solicited. No entitlement to payment of direct or indirect costs of charges by the U.S. Government will arise as a result of contractor submission of responses to this RFI or the U.S. Government's use of such information. This RFI does not constitute a solicitation for proposals or the authority to enter into negotiations to award a contract. All information contained in this RFI is preliminary, as well as subject to modification, and is in no way binding on the U.S. Government.
