Description
Space Layout and countertop requirements. THIS IS NOT A SOLICITATION; IT IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE USM-HQ-11-0021 - METALLURGY LABORATORY The United States Mint, Manufacturing Department, Washington, DC is seeking qualified vendors capable of providing all equipment, materials, and manpower necessary to design/install the Lab and all equipment (hood, blower, cabinets, countertops, fixtures, etc.) as per the United States Mint recommended layout (to be provided at the Solicitation stage) at the United States Mint, San Francisco, CA. Installation includes but not limited to fume hood, mounting cabinets, counter tops, hooking up electricity, water inlet (city and DI), drain, compressed air and exhaust ducting to the fume hood from easily available locations within the lab, hooking water faucets, drains and compressed air at appropriate stations on cabinets. The space is defined as a prepared laboratory space of 19 feet long, 12 feet wide and 8-1/4 feet high. It has power outlets (110V and 230V) at various locations within the lab, air-conditioning, telephone outlet, network connection for a computer, compressed air for the hood and the polishing wheel, hot and cold water for the hood, DI water for the hood, water for the polishing wheel and sample mounting press, drain for the water from the hood and the polishing wheel and sample mounting press. The purpose of this lab is to evaluate the microstructure of incoming raw materials including blanks, dies, coins produced at the United States Mint (San Francisco), as well as monitor and document effects of process changes on incoming materials, dies and coins produced. This lab has to meet minimum requirements of a functional Metallurgy lab, such as cutting of specimens, mounting and polishing of specimens, etching of specimens, and microscopic examination of specimens.
