Description
Solicitation No. VA-244-11-IB-0036, Amendment 2 - 1/6/2011 Building 58 - Replace Doors, Frames and Hardware Pre-Bid Questions: 1.Are the doors / frames fire-rated? If so, what rating? The answer provided on 12/21/2010 (Q.2) is being modified. The new answer is stated below. Answer: All doors will be 20-minute fire-resistance rated by construction, but not labeled. 2.For the hallway smoke/fire door pairs: schedule indicates 45 minute fire rating. To achieve this, NFPA requires self-closing/self-latching operation. The scheduled hardware does not provide for positive latching, i.e. vertical rod fire exit devices. Please clarify the requirements. Answer: NFPA 101 does not require latching devices or panic devices for cross-corridor doors in smoke barriers. The project requirement for 3/4-hour (fire-resistance rated) labeled doors in the smoke barrier is being removed. 3.Are there any hazardous materials that we may come in contact with during the course of this project? The answer provided on 12/21/2010 (Q.23) is being modified. The new answer is stated below. Answer: There is potential for underlying paint to be lead-based on all original tile walls. This applies to the door frames of rooms 114, 219, 220, 232 and Women's Area 231-239. All frame removals for these rooms must be done by EPA certified lead renovators or the equivalent to ensure proper procedures are followed. Solicitation No. VA-244-11-IB-0036, Amendment 2 - 1/6/2011 Building 58 - Replace Doors, Frames and Hardware Specification Revisions: Section 01 00 00 - In Paragraph 1.0.A, after the second sentence, add the following sentence: All existing frames cut from masonry walls must be cut and removed by an EPA certified lead renovation contactor (40CFR Part 745). Section 08 14 00 - In Articles 3.3, remove the description "(3/4-hour labeled)" from below both listings of "Corridor Smoke Doors" in the Door Schedule.
