- Description
- Multi-Page personalization equipment for an 88mm X 125mm sized booklet This RFI is issued for market research, budgetary and planning purposes ONLY. The purpose of this RFI is to determine which if any machine vendors have the capability to build a piece of printing equipment that will automate the manual process used for issuing Merchant Mariner Credentials. Scope The United States Government Printing Office (GPO) is requesting information pertaining to personalization/issuance equipment systems that can personalize 88mm X 125mm sized booklets. This Request for Information (RFI) seeks information on the capabilities of personalization equipment manufacturers in the areas of machine design, software integration and necessary multi-page personalization requirements. Background The GPO presently supports a federal agency licensing program. The personalization processes in that program are currently being done by desktop laser printers. The GPO would like to explore new equipment and systems to improve throughput, reliability and performance. The current book specs are: • Booklet size: 88mm X 125mm • Thickness of closed booklet: 2.63mm • Thickness of single page:.12mm • Thickness of cover:.53mm • Thickness of spine: 2.37mm Requirements Information is sought on issuance systems that are capable of: • Creating high resolution photos and black text. • Applying a high security laminate over the personalized information. • Applying personalized information and security laminate on 1 to 20 pages (non-sequentially), including facing pages. Other requirements : • The personalization of printing and laminating a subsequent page should not involve any operator intervention. Once the processing of a booklet has started, the printing and laminating of each page should be handled automatically. • Proposed equipment should be able to handle security laminates from any approved vendor. • Any printing method (i.e. laser, inkjet, thermal, dye sublimation, etc.) will be considered. • The foot print of the proposed equipment should be no larger than 4ft X 10ft. Variations from this will be considered. Response Criteria Keeping GPO's goals in mind please provide detailed information that will help us determine what viable technologies are available. In addition to the above listed requirements, please specifically discuss these questions: • What, if any, special exhausting requirements will be necessary? • Are there any special materials or consumables required, other than the security laminates? • What are the electrical and or pneumatic requirements for operation? • Is there any harmful waste produced by the system? • What data system format is required for the proposed system? Printing Speed The proposed system should be able to accommodate, at a minimum, 600 documents (with 8 pages personalized) in an 8 hour period. The GPO recognizes that documents with more or less personalized pages will affect the throughput of any proposed system. Required Environment The proposed issuance system should have no extensive environmental requirements for operation other than a typical office environment. NOTE: Fluctuating humidity levels should not affect proposed system requirements.
