- Description
- Idaho National Laboratory (INL), operated by Battelle Energy Alliance, LLC (BEA) under contract with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE), is offering the opportunity to license, further develop, use and commercialize the INL's Active Acoustic Tunnel Detector (AATD). The INL may also be available to partner(s) to assist in further research and development of the technology under a sponsored research agreement or CRADA program. NOTE: THIS IS NOT A PROCUREMENT. Technology Description: The Active Acoustic Tunnel Detector (AATD) is an active detection technology capable of directly addressing a subsurface threat. This device combines portability and functionality into a single system capable of nonintrusive interrogation and detection of underground tunnels and voids. The AATD detector permits streamlined operation without the need for large, complex, or cumbersome equipment. By using the AATD, there is no need to deploy additional sensors, instruments, or personnel. This allows for an efficient concept of operation (CONOP) when discretion and minimal operational signatures are required. Current Prototype: Validated operational depth of field from 20 to 75 feet Handheld version weighs approximately 27 pounds (plus laptop computer) Compact and portable (24 x 19 x 5 inches) Operational duty from onboard batteries allow for an estimated 80+ scans per charge Short interrogation (scan) time of less than 16 seconds Future Prototype: Improved operational depth of field Fully self-contained with integrated data processor Reduced total weight of approximately 20 pounds Improved signal fidelity with similar/shorter scan duration Reduced operational noise signature for improved concept of operation Intellectual Property: The INL has been issued one U.S. patent and one U.S. patent filing with three waiting review cover this technology. Applications: The AATD can assist to protect the United States from illegal border transits including drug shipments, weapons smuggling, and human trafficking. Commercialization Opportunity: The INL is seeking industry partner(s) to license and commercialize this technology. Interested companies with experience commensurate with the commercialization efforts are invited to respond to this announcement by providing a detailed statement of interest no later than sixty (60) days from the publication date of this notice. This statement of interest should describe the following company elements: 1. Related experience 2. Demonstrated ability to bring innovations to the market 3. Sufficient resources to accomplish further development and commercialization of the AATD 4. Interest in performing and/or funding cooperative research at the INL 5. Substantial manufacturing and operations presence in the United States 6. Preferred license arrangement (such as exclusive or nonexclusive, fields of use, etc.) Companies deemed appropriate may be provided with further information on the technology. Such information sharing may require an executed Nondisclosure Agreement. Respondents wishing to enter into negotiations for a commercial license may be required to submit a business plan for the commercialization of the technology prior to licensee(s) selection and negotiations.
