Description
The Air Force Flight Test Center (AFFTC)/Test Pilot School (TPS) has a requirement for six or more personal instrumentation systems which will record pilot physiologic data during high g and high altitude test flights in September 2011. The data monitored must be recorded on the pilot or transmitted from the pilot. It cannot be transferred by wire or cable from the pilot. The airborne system must be self contained and unobtrusive. It should have the following characteristics: 1. Record data at the maximum sample rate for 2-3 hours and/or transmit the entire data stream a minimum of 60 feet. 2. Weigh less than 80 grams including battery. 3. Software configurable parameter calibration, timing, synchronization and sample rates, as well as, software to analyze and play back recorded data. The table below identifies the specific physiologic parameters we expect to monitor with this equipment. The column on the left is the priority of the measurement: Pri Sensor Special Conditions or Requirements Samples/Sec 1 Heart Rate Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 25 1 Core Temp 25 1 O2 Saturation Small, Flexible pinky finger sensor, which will fit 25 under pilots flying glove is preferred if sensor is attached to digit 1 Respiration Rate Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 50 1 Dermal Temp Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 50 2 O2 Partial Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 100 Pressure in Face Mask 2 O2 Partial Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 100 Pressure in Face Mask 2 Pressure in Face Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 100 Mask 2 Temperature Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 100 in Face Mask 2 Expired Flow Rate Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 50 2 Galvanic Skin Sensor not to be affected by g loading or perspiration 50 Response The likely equipment candidate for this type of data gathering are concepts like the Equivital monitoring system.
