- Description
- The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) intends to conduct negotiations on a sole source basis with the Johns Hopkins University, 615 N Wolfe Street, Room E-6618 Baltimore, Maryland. The objective of the contract is to provide a final technical report describing results from a collaborative field study to improve understanding of the relative contributions of direct-contact, respiratory droplets, and droplet nuclei for transmission of influenza in healthcare settings. To accomplish this, NIOSH proposes conducting both laboratory and field studies. The specific objectives of this contract are as follows: 1) measure the airborne and surface concentration of influenza in outpatient settings (including ER departments and Emergency Acute Care units) during the flu season, 2) assess the level of virus contamination on personal protective equipment (PPE) worn by healthcare workers (HCW) in outpatient settings such as gloves, i.e. surgical masks (SMs), and filtering face piece respirators (FFRs), 3) determine the potential for contact transmission of influenza from the donning and doffing of contaminated FFRs and SMs under simulated in use conditions For this contract, NIOSH intends to expand upon that CDC funded ResPECT study to include additional studies to address questions related to influenza transmission. The clinical study began pilot testing on January 26, 2011 at 4 outpatient locations ('clusters') in the Baltimore, Maryland area, led by researchers at Johns Hopkins University. Responsible sources that believe they posses the expertise and capabilities identified above should submit to the Contracting Officer within 15 days from the posting date of this notice their capabilities statement and supporting information in the format they choose. Please forward capabilities and supporting information to: Mary Pat Shanahan, CDC, NIOSH, 626 Cochrans Mill Road, Pittsburgh PA 15236, mpu0@cdc.gov. If no affirmative responses are received then negotiations will be conducted with the Johns Hopkins University.
