Description
***The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), intends to negotiate, on a sole source basis, under authority of FAR 6.302-1 with Retsch, Inc. in Newton, PA for the purchase of a benchtop cryomill with a recirculating system.*** ***Retsch Inc. is the only manufacturer that offers a benchtop cryomill with a recirculating liquid nitrogen system. This unique feature offers additional safety to the user by minimizing the amount of liquid nitrogen which must be handled, since the liquid nitrogen recirculates in a closed system. In addition, the following unique features are also required by NIST: 1) Liquid nitrogen does not contact the samples (reduces contamination); 2) Automatic cooling system integrated with the sample timing scheme; 3) Stainless steel, autoclavable components in contact with the sample (sterile and clean environment); 4) Variable grinding frequency up to 25 Hz; 5) Continuous feed of liquid nitrogen; 6) Double-locking mechanism so that cells stay closed, reducing accidental loss of samples; 7) Programmable settings allow for great flexibility in the pre-cool and grinding cycles. Retsch Inc. is the sole manufacturer and distributor of these systems. ***Delivery shall be FOB Destination, Charleston, SC, and is required within 45 days after receipt of order.*** ***The North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code for this acquisition is 334516, and the size standard is 500 employees.*** ***No solicitation package will be issued. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotations; however, the Government will consider responses received by July 12, 2011.*** A determination by the Government not to compete the proposed acquisition based upon responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Government. Information received will normally be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive procurement.
