Description
The US Meat Animal Research Center, Clay Center, NE, intends to award a sole source, firm fixed priced contract, pursuant to FAR Part 12, to Advanced Instruments Inc for two (2) AP-5000 Autoplate Spiral Plating Systems. Advanced Instruments is the sole manufacturer and distributor of the Autoplate Spiral Plating Systems Model AP-5000 in the United States. The Autoplate 5000 Spiral Plating System meets the needs of USMARC for apparatus to automate and increase our capacity and the efficiency of the laborious processes involved in diluting and plating large numbers of manure, soil, and other biological samples for bacterial enumeration on agar media plates. In addition to spiral-plating, the Autoplate 5000 can be used to do "Spiral Gradient Endpoint Testing" to examine the antibiotic resistance or preservative resistance of bacteria. The unique features of the Autoplate 5000 Spiral Plating System result in greater sample repeatability, significant savings in time, labor, and supplies over conventional serial dilution and agar plating techniques, and up to a two-thirds reduction in disposable materials. In particular, because of how the sample is spirally-dispensed, a four-log dilution effect on a single 100-mm (10-cm) plate is produced, with fewer dilutions. Thus, more data can be obtained from the same time, effort, and materials, thereby saving substantial amounts of money. Another unique feature of the Autoplate 5000 is the high-capacity 500 µL syringe and the ability to intake enough sample to plate ten 50-µL replicate samples. Because we process large numbers of samples, we need this high-throughput plating ability and to get as much data as possible from every supply dollar.
