- This is a combined Synopsis/Solicitation for commercial service prepared in accordance with the format in Subpart 12.6, as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation; quotes are being requested. A written solicitation will not be issued. This solicitation is being issued as RFQ # E11PS55218.The U.S. Department of the Interior, National Park Service, Everglades National Park, Biscayne National Park and Big Cypress National Preserve, located in South Florida, has a requirement for the design, construction and delivery of exhibit cases. The Government intends to award a firm fixed price contract in accordance with FAR Part 12, Acquisition of Commercial Services. REQUEST FOR QUOTE (RFQ)DESIGN, CONSTRUCT AND DELIVER EXHIBIT CASESFOR SOUTH FLORIDA COLLECTION MANAGEMENT CENTER (SFCMC)AT BIG CYPRESS NATIONAL PRESERVEAND BISCAYNE NATIONAL PARK A. Purpose of WorkThis job consists of construction and delivery of one museum quality (conservation grade) exhibit case for Big Cypress National Preserve in Ochopee, FL and four for Biscayne National Park in Homestead, FL. The exhibit cases will house museum objects in the parks' visitor centers. They must meet professional museum standards for physical stability, security, and object preservation, while ensuring safe and easy access for museum staff for exhibit rotation and maintenance.B. Scope of Work1. The contactor will design, construct and deliver the museum-quality exhibit cases described below. BIG CYPRESS NP EXHIBIT CASE:Basic description: Free-standing double-sided case. Case includes an interior partition in the exhibit space so that different exhibit themes or objects can be exhibited within a single case. Each side of the case should have two sets of 3 pull-out drawers. Case Design Elements: -minimum features for this case must include the following: "Exterior dimensions of the case are to be 84 inches wide x 84 high x 48 inches deep (including vitrine). Base portion is c. 36 inches tall."Partition which creates the double-sided case should be centered down the middle of the case (i.e. creating two exhibit spaces c. 24" deep)."Base, sides, top and interior divider wall constructed of Medite-type medium density fiberboard (MDF) made with a formaldehyde-free adhesive, and finished with a moisture-cured polyurethane sealant to prevent off-gassing (all edges sealed)."The sides of the case (i.e. the 48 inch dimension on each end) should be wood MDF as well to the full height of the case (i.e. 84 inches). "Access to the interior of the case must be provided along the full length of the front of the case, on both sides, either via hinges or a sliding mechanism. Due to the size of the case, a lift off access scenario is not appropriate."Exterior MDF components should be finished (veneered) in white oak with a clear varnish."Interior of the case and drawers should have a laminate interior (color to be selected by the COR from standard colors available from the contractor)."Linen wrapped archival deck and wall inserts (color to be selected from standard colors)."Acrylic glazing on both viewing sides of the case should be of 1/4 of an inch thick. Acrylic must have anti-reflective coating and be filtered to eliminate ultraviolet (UV) light."Use hidden hinges to ensure case interior can be easily accessed independently by one person from both sides of the exhibit case, for changing exhibits and preventive conservation (i.e. not "lift off" fronts)."Case should include security screws as appropriate and driver tip must be provided as part of the contract deliverables."Design must conceal all case screws, lift assist devices (if any), and any entry hardware, hinges, etc."Leveling feet."Utilize appropriate gasketing of the proper density and thickness for successful compression by the vitrine top, utilizing a channel or trough which measures 60% of the gasket's depth. "No interior case lighting."Each side of the base should contain 2 sets of 3 pull out drawers with handles. Drawers should by c. 30 inches wide, enabling two parallel sets of drawers along the 7 foot length of the case (and taking into account the space needed for hardware, etc). All drawers should be c. 6 inches deep (exterior dimensions)."UV-filtered and anti-glare coated acrylic drawer covers (pre-drilled for security screws) to attach to the top of each drawer (also pre-drilled for security screws) to prevent objects from being handled or stolen when drawers are opened."Drawers must be installed on gliders or rollers to open and close smoothly, without jerking or sticking (to prevent damage to artifacts when drawers are opened and closed). Gliders must include stops to prevent drawers from pulling all the way out when being used by visitors (but must allow staff to remove for cleaning and exhibit maintenance). Shipping note: The contractor will be responsible for packing and shipping the exhibit case for safe arrival to the NPS. This case will ship to the Oasis Visitor Center in Ochopee, FL. BISCAYNE NP EXHIBIT CASES:Case 1 basic description: Angled, free-standing backwall case, with an acrylic front, concealed space for silica gel cartridge(s), and three pull-out drawers in the base. Case Design Elements: -minimum features for this case must include the following:"Base, backwall and drawers constructed of Medite medium density fiberboard finished with a two-component polyurethane powder-coated finish (color to be selected by the COR from standard colors available from the contractor)."Case needs to fit along an angled wall. This will result in an exhibit case that has two back walls that meet at an angle. One is 16.5" and the other is 22.5", meeting at a c. 120 degree angle (precise angle to be provided). Although the back walls meet at an angle, the side walls should be created to "square up" the exhibit case when viewed from the front."Exterior dimensions of the case are to be 24 inches deep (without drawer handles) x 7 feet tall (including vitrine). The width of the case in front will be determined by the angle of the 16.5" and 22.5" sides."Back walls and side walls extend up the full height of the case."The base height is 42 inches."Base should include an area for desiccant (e.g. silica gel cartridge) for the interior of the case (not the drawers) which can be accessed without opening the interior of the exhibit case."Use security screws to secure desiccant drawer. (Note: if these will be visible paint screw heads to blend in with chosen laminate color)."Base contains 3 pull out drawers with handles. Drawers should run the width (taking into account the space needed for hardware, etc).
