Description
Synopsis: Proposals will be sought from small business firms for participation in the NIST Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Program. The SBIR Program is a three-phase program which implements the Small Business Innovation Research Re-Authorization Act of 2000. The purpose of Phase 1 is to conduct feasibility related experimental or theoretical research or research and development (R&D) in order to determine the scientific or technical merit/feasibility of concepts/ideas as prerequisite for further NIST support under Phase 2 of the SBIR Program. Firms or individuals receiving awards under Phase 1 will be eligible to compete for Phase 2 contracts. Phase 1 awards will be made up to $90,000.00. The following are the research topics available for Phase 1 in the 2012 solicitation: Ultrafast Photodetector for Probing Coplanar Waveguide Electrical Circuits; High-Power, High-Speed Photodiodes; Microfabricated High-Frequency Connectors for Millimeter-Wave Technology; Query-based Geometric Interoperability for Advanced Manufacturing; WS-BiometricDevices (WS-BD) Conformant Handheld Fingerprint Sensor; Silicon Ion Source for Isotopically Enriched Deposition; X-ray Chemical Shift Mapping for Industrial Materials Analysis; High-Precision, Random Profile Roughness Specimens; Power Meter for EUV Lithography Sources; Development of a Microcompressor for Miniaturized Cryocooling; Non-contact Microwave Measurement of Electrical Properties of Nanofiber Materials; Low-cost Stabilized Diode Lasers for Displacement Measurements The NIST 2012 solicitation will be issued on or about November 3, 2011 and will close January 26, 2012. Electronic copies of the solicitation will be located at http://www.nist.gov/sbir, http://sbir.gov and http://www.fedbizopps.gov. No mailing lists will be kept and no hard copies will be available. Any and all amendments to the solicitation will be posted to the above two websites. A public website will be available where technical questions may be submitted by the interested parties and answers provided by NIST experts will be posted. This public Q&A will be available during the open solicitation period at http://www.nist.gov/sbir. Amendments to the solicitation and answers to submitted questions are the total responsibility of the individual or firm proposing.
