Description
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), National Weather Service (NWS), Office of Strategic Planning and Policy intends to award a sole source contract to the American Meteorological Society (AMS) to support expanding the Weather Ready Nation (WRN) dialogue to more stakeholders. WRN National Dialogue is about inspiring existing partners and gaining new ones to join us in realizing our vision of a Weather-Ready Nation. The recent Severe Weather and Tornado Science and Services Symposium in Norman, Oklahoma, brought together many local users to help guide our WRN discussion and direction. The next step is to raise the involvement of our partners at a higher level. The American Meteorological Society is the weather community's only organization to bring together the salient partners within the weather community to assist the NWS in achieving a WRN that will: • Improve weather decision services for events that threaten lives and livelihoods • Deliver a broad suite of improved water forecasting services to support management of the Nation's water supply • Enhance climate services to help communities, businesses, and governments understand and adapt to climate-related risks • Improve sector-relevant information in support of economic productivity • Enable integrated environmental forecast services supporting healthy communities and ecosystems The American Meteorological Society promotes the development and dissemination of information and education on the atmospheric and related oceanic and hydrologic sciences and the advancement of their professional applications. Founded in 1919, AMS has a membership of more than 14,000 professionals, students, and weather enthusiasts. The scope required under this contract is to convene a conference in the Washington, DC area to engage critical weather enterprise partners and key leadership.
