All existing fixtures, furnishings, and drywall throughout the residence have been removed. As-constructed drawings (Attachment 1) and a floor plan (Attachment 2) are included for reference. Note: The bedroom closets as shown in the floor plan do not exist. The closet shown by the entry door is to be removed. 1.02LOCATIONBuilding 917, Hoh Bunkhouse, is located in the Hoh sub-district of Olympic National Park. Follow US 101 west 69.2 miles from Port Angeles, WA. Turn left on Upper Hoh Road and proceed 19 miles to the Hoh Visitor Center. Indicate recycled content. C.For all assemblies required to be fire-rated for which a "Listed Design" is not provided in this Section, submit drawings and specifications of an appropriate design that has been tested and is "Listed" by a Nationally Recognized Fire Testing Agency such as Underwriters Laboratory; Warnock Hersey; or equal. 1.05EXAMINATION OF SITE A.Bidders are urged and expected to inspect the site where the work will be performed. Failure to visit site will not relieve Contractor from necessity of furnishing materials or performing work that may be required to complete work in accordance with drawings and specification without additional cost to the government. To coordinate a site visit, email Rex_Crouch@nps.gov. 1.05QUALITY ASSURANCE A.Comply with the more restrictive or conservative of the following. B.Comply with the following Regulatory requirements:1.International Building Code (IBC), 2009 edition C.Comply with recommendations in "Gypsum Construction Handbook", 5th edition by United States Gypsum Company, for installation of materials used and United States Gypsum "USG Cavity Shaft Wall Systems - Folder SA 926 Rev. 1/89" and USG Gypsum Products, Accessories and Systems SA 919 1990." D.Comply with Gypsum Association GA-216-89 "Recommended Specifications for the Application and Finishing of Gypsum Board." E.Comply with ANSI Standard Specifications A97.1 "Applications and Finishing of Wallboard." 1.06DELIVERY, STORAGE AND HANDLING A.Deliver materials in original packages, containers or bundles bearing brand and manufacturer's name. B.Store all materials in protected dry storage areas. Neatly stack in flat position on spacers to prevent sagging and contact with concrete slabs. 1.06HOUSEKEEPING A. Keep project site neat, orderly and in a safe condition at all times. Store and use equipment, tools, and materials in a manner that does not present a hazard. 1.07UTILITIES A. Electricity and water shall be provided on site, and paid for, by the Government. PART 2 - PRODUCTS 2.01DRYWALL MATERIALS A.Gypsum Board: 5/8-inch, Type X, 1-hour fire-rated, tapered edges, 4 feet wide by longest lengths available to keep end joints to a minimum, meeting Federal Specification SS L-30D, Type III, Grade X, Class I and ASTM C36. Minimum 10% post- consumer recycled content or 40% pre-consumer recycled content. United States Gypsum (USG) sheetrock Firecode "C"; National Gypsum (NG) Fire-shield; or equal. 2.02ACCESSORIES A.Corner Bead: At all exterior corners, galvanized steel, 1 1/4 x 1 1/4 Dur A Bead #103; United States Gypsum; National Gypsum; or equal. B.Edge Trim: Use metal trim in exposed locations at intersection of drywall with other materials, and as shown, U.S. Gypsum "J" Mld #200A or "L" Mld #200B; National Gypsum; or equal. 2.03FASTENERS A.Gypsum Board to Wood Supports. Cooler or wallboard nails shall comply with National Design Specification for Wood Construction.1.Type W screws 1 7/8 inch long2.Type W screws 1 1/4 inch long. 2.04JOINT TREATMENT AND FINISHING A.Reinforcing Tape: USG Perf-A-Tape; NG Gold Bond; or equal. Fiberglass tape shall not be permitted. B.Taping Compound: USG Ready-to-use joint compound-tapping; NG Gold Bond; or equal. C.Topping Compound: USG Ready-to-use joint compound-topping; NG Gold Bond; or equal. PART 3 - EXECUTION 3.01GYPSUM BOARD INSTALLATION A.Install gypsum board systems in accordance with ASTM C840 and GA 216. B.Where fire-rated partitions are required, install gypsum board in accordance with requirements for a fire-rated assembly that has been tested and "Listed" by a nationally recognized fire testing agency in accordance with ASTM E119. C.Where studs extend above the top edge of gypsum board and there is a fire-rated ceiling that butts into the vertical gypsum board wall surface, attach the top edge of the gypsum board to horizontal stud depth backing installed between studs. D.Edge and ends of gypsum board shall be in moderate contact. Space fasteners as required by "Listing" for fire-rated assemblies. For non-rated assemblies, space nails at 8 inches on center on edges of gypsum board for vertical surfaces and at 7 inches on center for horizontal surfaces. Space nails at 12 inches on center at intermediate members. Space fasteners at least 3/8-inch from panel edges or ends. Stagger fasteners in adjacent edges at joints. Drive fasteners until their heads are slightly below the surface of the gypsum board, but without breaking the cover. After all fasteners have been installed hammer on walls to detect loose fasteners and push on gypsum board adjacent to fasteners to detect movements. Drive loose fasteners tight or replace them with other fasteners approximately 1 1/2 inches away and remove loose fasteners. B.Install corner bead at all outside corners with fasteners 9 inches on center. Install edge trim at exposed edges, where gypsum board abuts or joins other materials and where shown. Attach edge trim with fasteners 9 inches on center. C.Cut openings for outlet boxes, pipes and similar items with a saw, router, or other device that produces a clean, tight fitting hole without tearing the paper face or back and without fracturing the gypsum core. D.Stagger vertical and horizontal joints on opposite sides of partition 2 feet or as required for fire-rated assemblies. E.Where a second layer of gypsum board is required, apply over first layer. Fasten first layer at 16 inches on center at edges and in field. Apply second layer with joints staggered and attach with screws at 12 inches on center at edges and in the field. If nails are used, reduce spacing to 7 inches. F.Install control or expansion joints as required and/or recommended by manufacturer. G.Set bottom edge of gypsum board 1/4 inch above the floor. H.Spot grout at hollow metal door frame jamb anchor clips with joint compound just before inserting gypsum board into trim return. I.Install access panels furnished under other Sections. 3.02FINISHING AND JOINT TREATMENT A.Mix and size joint compound in accordance with manufacturer's instructions. Spread a thin layer of compound over joint and embed tape in compound leaving sufficient compound under tape to provide proper bond. Spot nail heads. Reinforce interior angles with perforated tape neatly folded to form straight, true corner. Reinforce exterior corners with specified corner bead. Backer board shall be taped and fastener heads spotted prior to installing face layer. B.Allow compound to dry overnight. Sand lightly. Cover tape with topping cement spread evenly and slightly beyond tapered edge of wallboard. Apply second coat to fastener heads. Feather all edges of topping compound. C.Allow compound to dry and then sand lightly. Apply a final skim coat of topping cement. Feather edges 8 inches to 10 inches each side of joint. Feather out final coat at fastener heads to 10 inch diameter. D.Sand to true even surface with very fine paper. Avoid heavy pressure that might scuff paper face of wallboard. Leave ready for painting or other wall finish. 3.03LEVELS OF GYPSUM BOARD FINISH A.All exposed gypsum board intended to receive a painted finish shall have a Level 4 finish. B.Level 4 Discription: All joints and interior angles shall have tape embedded in joint compound and three separate coats of joint compound applied over all joints, angles, fastener heads, and accessories. All joint compound shall be smooth and free of tool marks and ridges. Coat prepared surfaces with a primer/sealer prior the application of final finishes. C. Texture: Apply a light orange peel texture on all finished wallboard surfaces. D. Apply a vapor barrier primer/ sealer over all textured wallboard surfaces. 3.04 PERIOD OF PERFORMANCE A. The contractor shall coordinate with Jeff Doryland, program manager at the National Park Jeff_Doryland@nps.gov (360)-565-3115 to coordinate the period of performance after award. After the coordination is made, and a notice to proceed is issued, the contractor shall have no more than 14 days to complete the work. 3.05 DRAWINGS A.
