- Description
- The Academy of Health Sciences (AHS), U.S. Army (USA) Medical Department Center & School (AMEDDC&S) requires non-severable, non-personal services of an accredited university to award a Doctorate of Nursing Practice (DNP) degree to Army, Air Force, and Department of Veterans Affairs students who successfully complete the USAGPAN curriculum. The program is a two-phase program. Phase 1 will begin 11 June 2012 and will run for 51 weeks and Phase 2 will run consecutively for 97 weeks. Phase 1 will utilize instructional strategies of lectures, conferences, discussions, practical exercises, simulations, and examinations. Major areas of the curriculum presented include Professional Aspects of Anesthesia Nursing, Theoretical Foundations in Nursing, Research Methodology, Anatomy Physiology and Pathophysiology, Medical Pharmacology, and Fundamentals of Nursing Anesthesia Practice I. Phase 2 consists primarily of clinical education. Students are evaluated in didactic and clinical areas for competence. Phase 2 provides Army Nurse Anesthetist students with theoretical and applied statistical and quantitative skills and knowledge to enable them to understand, conduct and evaluate biomedical, scientific, and managerial research. The program will be conducted at nine military training facility (MTF) sites consisting of (7) Army, (1) Air Force, and (1) Department of Veterans Affairs medical treatment facilities with their respective clinical affiliate sites. Phase 2 classes run simultaneously at all nine (9) MTF sites. Academic time for Phase 2 is allocated in accordance with the Program of Instruction (POI). Phase 2 students may rotate at various MTF sites.
