Description
Request for Information Office Productivity Suite Alternatives Pilot This is a Request for Information (RFI)/Sources Sought notice issued in accordance with FAR 15.201(e) to conduct market research. This RFI is issued solely for information and planning purposes - it does not constitute a Request for Proposal (RFP) or a promise to issue a RFP in the future. This request for information does not commit the Government to contract for any supply or service whatsoever. The VA is not, at this time, seeking proposals and will not accept unsolicited proposals. Responders are advised that the U.S. Government will not pay for any information or administrative costs incurred in response to this RFI; all costs associated with responding to this RFI will be solely at the interested vendor's expense. Not responding to this RFI does not preclude participation in any future RFP, if any is issued. Any information submitted by respondents to this RFI is strictly voluntary. All submissions become Government property and will not be returned. VA currently owns and operates Microsoft Office 2003, 2007,and 2010 based productivity suite of office software that includes Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. This provides the VA interoperability across the enterprise between this productivity suite. However to lower cost VA wishes to pilot alternatives to the desktop installed versions of the Microsoft Office productivity suite of applications. VA Office of Information and Technology intends to solicit proposals for alternative architectures for providing an office productivity suite with similar functions that are offered in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, and where available Access, Visio, OneNote and Project. The alternative architecture may be provided through an off-premises cloud system such as Office 365, Google Apps, LotusLive or others. Or it could be provided through an on-premises cloud based terminal server or application virtualization system providing Microsoft Office 2010 as an example. Or it could be provided through a desktop installed version of a lower cost office productivity suite such as OpenOffice as another example. The purpose of the pilot is to understand the issues such as security, supportability, interoperability, ease of use, end user satisfaction, speed, network requirements and compatibility with Microsoft based products over a diverse set of users within a large enterprise setting. In support of this effort, VA is soliciting white papers that address functional capabilities, per seat costs, security, and interoperability with current applications. VA is not interested in information from resellers of software/hardware related products. The white papers should merely be focused on the per seat cost for services/tools provided, current state of the technology in terms of Office productivity suite benefits, supportability, security, ease of use, and interoperability with Microsoft based products,. Submit a white paper or related information via email to the Project Manager for this effort at (TBD) by 4:00 Eastern Standard Time on 15 March 2012. Please limit the white papers to 20 pages. All proprietary/company confidential material shall be clearly marked and every page that contains such. White papers should also include a short summary of your company's business/developments in this area and current deployments. Also, please submit the name, phone number, and email address of the lead from your organization. VA reserves the right to not respond to any or all emails or materials submitted.
