- Description
- The purpose of this modification is to incorporate the following: 1.Request concept papers for Mali and Burkina Faso as described below by 21 March 2012 for first round consideration: Mali: HBHC $55,000 Proposals are requested to train Malian Armed Forces members and their families on the development and preparation for personal or communal garden projects. The TBD Partner will engage the community on their roles and responsibility from the projects inception to hand-over. Using community and family gardens to increase nutritional intake of military families infected or affected by HIV can provide military service members not only with the necessary nutrients to support ART regimes, but also significant income generation possibilities. Urban and micro “ gardening is a low cost sustainable activity that can be replicated in almost any setting with consistent access to water. Providing patients on ART with nutritional support is crucial for their bodies to adequately support the consumption of their regimens and properly hinder viral replication. Development and implementation of the gardens will include but are not limited to: planning the garden with the community, plotting the garden, nursery for transplant, direct seeding, cuttings for transplant, transplant planting, fertilization techniques, micro-gardening techniques, weeding, pest maintenance, harvest, soil prep and maintenance, table gardening. All materials used for the creation and cultivation of these gardens will be purchased by the TBD Partner, and handed-over to the community at the completion of the partners intervention. The TBD Partner will conduct trainings for community members involved in the gardening project concerning nutrition, income generation, proper storage and preparation of vegetables and small enterprise development. A minimum of three (5) trainings will be conducted throughout the project with specific attention being paid to nutrition and which vegetables best support proper nutrition. The program will be monitored by the TBD partner throughout the project from start to finish. Strategic monitoring and evaluation systems will be put in place by the TBD partner in order to adequately allow for the project ™s completion and subsequent transition of all project materials to the community in a state at which the community can sufficiently sustain the garden and yields to be consumed and sold. The TBD partner will work with local military officials to coordinate the project placement and execution. The TBD partner will also collaborate with DHAPP, US Government Agencies, and other implementing partners in their efforts to execute prevention activities and techniques. Upon completion of the project the TBD partner will provide a report of the activities completed, the achievements and constraints of the program, and ways forward for future intervention with this program and possible areas of improvement.
