- Description
- Military Sealift Command (MSC) Historian DESCRIPTION: The Military Sealift Command (MSC) provides combat logistics support to the Department of the Navy (DON) ships worldwide as well as strategic transportation of ocean cargo as part of the U.S. Transportation Command (USTRANSCOM). The DON mandates all Navy shore commands and commissioned ships, through the Naval History and Heritage Command (NHHC), to accurately and thoroughly document all exercises and operations throughout their entire lifecycle, from planning to lessons learned. Each command is required to maintain an archive with related source documents and a chronology of events. USTRANSCOM also provides non-regular research and writing requirement through its research center. To document MSC's mission and exercises, MSC requires one (1) Contractor personnel to provide daily (Monday through Friday) on-site support as a Command Historian. The Historian will function under the Directorate of Operations (N3) to provide oversight and support to MSC Head quarter's functional directorates, ship's program management offices, as well as subordinate commands, i.e. Military Sealift Fleet Support Command (MSFSC), area Sealift Logistics (SEALOG) commands, Ship Support Units (SSUs): MSC Offices (MSCO), Representatives and Liaisons, Maritime Prepositioning Ship Squadron (MPSRONs), and Reserve Units. The Historian will be responsible for various programs, instructions, and services in addition to providing input for Information Technology (IT) initiatives involving knowledge/records management.
