Description
The California Institute of Technologys Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), operatingunder a prime contract with the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), isseeking industry interest to design and build a low-pass waveguide absorptive filters forX-Band (7.2 GHz) capable of handling a minimum 25kW (continuous) power at the fundamentalfrequency. These filters are for ground based transmitter systems used in the Deep SpaceNetwork (DSN). BACKGROUND: The NASA Deep Space Network (DSN) is an international networkof antennas that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions and radio and radarastronomy observations for the exploration of the solar system and the universe. Thenetwork also supports selected Earth-orbiting missions. REQUIREMENTS: This filter isplaced in the output of the 20kW X-band transmitter to reduce harmonic output from thetransmitter to an acceptable level. It works in concert with a reflective filter toachieve the overall harmonic reduction required. The 20kW transmitter is used by the DSNfor amplifying the uplink signal sent to a spacecraft. The requirements are stated on thedrawing, but the most important are as follows: (a) Be a low-pass harmonic absorptivefilter implemented for WR-137 waveguide; (b) Insertion loss between 7145 and 7235 MHzshould be less than 0.15dB while the insertion loss at the second harmonic should exceed15dB; and (c) Be capable of handling a power level of 30kW (continuous). RESPONSEDEADLINE: In response to this RFI, please submit (1) your expression of interest; (2)address the above requirements; (3) provide a capabilities statement to provide supportin accordance with the above information; and (4) state whether your business is a largebusiness, small business, woman-owned, small disadvantaged business; HUBZone;Veteran-owned; or Service-Disabled Veteran small business to Mary Helen Ruiz at E-Mail:maryhelen.ruiz@jpl.nasa.gov no later than 04/04/12. DISCLAIMER: It is also emphasizedthat the requested information is for preliminary budgetary planning purposes only anddoes not constitute a commitment, implied or otherwise, that JPL will solicit you forsuch procurement in the future. Neither JPL nor the Government will be responsible forany costs incurred by you or your company in furnishing this information. Prospectivebidders are advised that any information provided shall be deemed furnished withunlimited rights to JPL, with JPL assuming no liability for the disclosure, use, orreproduction of such data.
