- Draft Drawings for the Coon Cove LTF Access Road Reconditioning project. 15 sheets. The Forest Service contemplates issuing solicitation no. AG-0116-S-12-0061 on or about May 15, 2012, with a proposals due date on or about June 18, 2012. BASE WORK. The project involves reconditioning about 4.5 miles of road, including reconditioning roadway; rock ditching, excavation, and side-casting of debris; production, haul, and placement of rock borrow; removal of culverts and a log bridge; clearing brush from the roadway and draining structure inlets; furnishing and installation of culverts and a 60-ft bridge; seeding and fertilizing exposed organic soils; pit development; and preparing fabrication shop drawings for 60-ft bridge and bridge rail system. OPTION WORK. Options will include work for producing, hauling, placing, and compacting base aggregate on about 8.8 miles of road; replacing native log bridge sills and backwalls with pressure-treated wood substructure; providing and installing bridge rail retrofit including approach rails; and seeding and fertilizing. The intent of the contract will be to provide for the complete construction of the project described in the drawings and specifications. A draft copy of the drawings is provided with this posting so that prospective offerors can familiarize themselves with the project. A total small business set-aside is contemplated. The project is located on the Ketchikan- Misty Fiords Ranger District of the Tongass National Forest in Southeast Alaska. It is approximately 14 air miles northwest of Ketchikan, Alaska, and can be reached only by floatplane or boat. The road systemms can be accessed from the Forest Service's Shelter Cove Marine Access Facility (MAF) located in Carroll Inlet or at Coon Cove located in George Inlet where there is a loading ramp only. The magnitude of the project, with all options, is estimated at between $500,000 and $1,000,000. The contract clause at FAR 52.236-3, Site Investigation and Conditions Affecting the Work, will be included in the solicitation and resulting contract. Prospective contractors should take steps to ascertain the nature and location of the work and satisfy itself as to (a) the general and local conditions which can affect the work and its cost, and (b) the character, quality, and quantity of surface and subsurface materials or obstacles to be encountered insofar as this information is reasonably ascertainable from an inspection of the site. At this time, a hosted site visit is not planned -- however, any prospective offeror may visit the site at its own convenience at any time.
