Description
Sources Sought Notice for Small Business Search The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) Montana Water Science Center has a requirement for services to be provided for the collection of suspended sediment samples at one (1) site for Yellowstone River near Sidney, Montana. The USGS has conducted hydrologic data-collection activities in order to estimate seasonal loads of suspended sediment in the Yellowstone River near Sidney, Montana. The surface-water quality monitoring activities includes the collection of suspended sediment samples at one (1) monitoring site at a frequency sufficient to estimate daily, monthly, and seasonal suspended sediment loads. The USGS is seeking small business sources to provide the following services: Scope Sampling site and methods: The collection of suspended-sediment samples will occur at the following U.S. Geological Survey=BFs gaging station: Yellowstone River near Sidney, Montana (06329500) Each sample will consist of the collection of water in three (3) sample bottles using a depth-integrated single-vertical collection method. Samples will be collected from 3 sampling locations on the river previously identified by the USGS technical liaison, and collection of the sample will occur from a USGS cable way. As such, the contractor must be familiar with the operation of the cable car, and successfully complete a cableway safety training conducted by the USGS within 5 days of the contract award. In addition to the collection of a suspended-sediment sample, water temperature and gage readings are also obtained at every sampling visit and recorded on a monthly field form. Sampling Frequency: A guideline for sampling frequency is a follows: March (or ice break up) through June: Once daily (1 sample bottle collected once daily from the three (3) previously identified sampling locations) July through November: Every third day December through February: No sample collection Note: From March through June twice-daily samples during large events may be requested=BFthe contactor will be contacted by phone if additional samples are needed. During the time period from July to November, the sampling frequency will increase to once daily if the river stage increases by one (1.0) foot or more due to significant runoff or ice breakup. The sampling frequency will return to every third day once the river stage returns to the pre-event stream stage. All determinations of the need to change sampling frequency based on changes in stream stage will be made by USGS project technical liaison. The USGS is in search of small business firms who are able to provide the above mentioned service. Small business firms who feel they can furnish the required service or its functional equivalent (based on criteria specified herein) are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement. An affirmative response would include literature, brochures and such other materials, which correspond to the required supply/service stated herein. This information will be used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, request for such documents without accompanying information will be considered non-responsive to this request. POC: Lisa D. Hayes, U. S. Geological Survey, P.
