- SOURCES SOUGHT SYNOPSIS This request is an announcement for information/market research for planning purposes. This synopsis does not constitute a request for proposal, request for quote, invitation for bid nor does its issuance, in any way, restrict the Government as to its ultimate acquisition approach. The Air Force Nuclear Weapons Center PKOA, Kirtland AFB, New Mexico, is seeking potential sources to provide sets of waveguide to coax adapters and miscellaneous other waveguide components. Waveguide to coax adapters without flanges will be used as field probes. They will be used below their normal operating band (i.e. below cutoff) so that they are very insensitive as antennas. As a result it is very critical that the coax to waveguide joint be very well electromagnetically sealed. Conductive epoxy or other treatment may be needed. Each standard size of waveguide has a geometrical area defined by it aperture size. When used as an antenna it has an equivalent electrical area. When the aperture is sealed off with a shorting plate it is required that the electrical area be at less than 0.0001 times the geometrically area. As an example a WR-650 waveguide to coax adapter has a geometrical area of 6.5" by 3.25" or 21.125 sq inches (or 136 sq cm). Its electrical area should then be no larger than 0.0021 sq inches (or 0.0136 sq cm). This means that such a shorted waveguide, when exposed to a power density of 1 watt/sq cm, would produce an output signal of no more than 13.6 mWatts. The same would apply to the other adapters based on their dimensions. The Air Force will measure the equivalent electrical area and use this as an acceptance criteria. All adapters and components with flanges shall have cover type flanges. Components can be made of brass or aluminum, if aluminum a chromate finish shall be applied prior to painting. Painting should be according to company standard practice. Shorting plates should be grooved so as to accept a conductive gasket (supplied). Specific contract equipment needed: WR-650 straight section, cover flanges both ends 18" long, 2 each WR-430 straight section, cover flanges both ends 12" long, 2 each WRD-180 to WR-42 transition, cover flanges both ends (any length), 1 each WRD-180 to WR-28 transition, cover flanges both ends (any length), 1 each WR-650 to type N female connector cover flange, 3 each WR-650 to type N female connector no flange, 6 each WR-430 to type N female connector cover flange, 4 each WR-430 to type N female connector no flange, 6 each WR-284 to type N female connector cover flange, 6 each WR-284 to type N female connector no flange, 6 each WR-187 to type N female connector cover flange, 6 each WR-187 to type N female connector no flange, 6 each WR-137 to SMA female connector cover flange, 6 each WR-137 to SMA female connector no flange, 6 each WR-112 to type N female connector cover flange, 2 each WR-90 to SMA female connector cover flange, 4 each WR-90 to SMA female connector no flange, 6 each WR-75 to SMA female connector cover flange, 2 each WR-62 to SMA female connector cover flange, 4 each WR-62 to SMA female connector no flange, 6 each WR-51 to SMA female connector cover flange, 2 each WR-42 to SMA female connector cover flange, 4 each WR-42 to SMA female connector no flange, 6 each WR-28 to type K female connector cover flange, 4 each WR-28 to type K female connector no flange, 6 each WRD-180 to K female connector, 2 each WR-19 to type 1.85mm female connector cover flange, 2 each WR-650 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-430 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-284 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-187 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-137 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-112 shorting plate not required WR-90 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-75 shorting plate not required WR-62 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-51 shorting plate not required WR-42 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each WR-28 shorting plate, grooved with conductive gasket, 2 each Firms responding to this announcement shall include company name, cage code, point of contact, address and business size using NAICS Code 332999, Size Standard 500 employees.
