- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS), Alaska Science Center, has a requirement to determine the genotypes of polar bears from tissue, blood and hair samples. The work and analyses are anticipated to take place beginning July 2012 through December 2013. The contractor is required provide on-going augmentation of the genetic ID database for southern Beaufort Sea using hyper-variable microsatellite markers. The contractor must maintain industry standard or better quality-control procedures. Wildlife Genetics International (WGI), Nelson, BC, is, to the USGS knowledge, the only interested and qualified contractor to have conducted genotyping on polar bears. WGI reliability identifying of individual bears is the foundation of USGS research and WGI has established and maintained high quality control standards for individual idenfication based on microsatellite genotypes. Therefore, the government intends to award this requirement non-competitively in accordance with FAR 13.103-1(b)(1) to WGI. Other interested concerns having the ability to meet the USGS requirements may submit a capabilities statement to the Contracting Officer no later than the closing date of this announcement at 1430 local time. All submissions will be evaluated to determine if competitive opportunities exist. If no competitive opportunities exist, Request for Quotation (RFQ) G12PS00481 will be made available to WGI on or about June 5, 2012. This notice and any resulting quotation or purchase order conforms to the requirements in place through FAC 2005-58, effective 18 May 2012.
