- Description
- This competitive action was awarded pursuant to NASA Research Announcement (NRA) NNH10ZEA001N-CTD2 entitled Research Opportunities in Aeronautics (ROA) 2010, Concepts and Technology Development Round 2 (CTD2), Amendment 7, Subtopic 2 Stochastic Models of Arrival Time Accurace and Transit Time Range for NextGen Operations in Super-Dense Airspace. This research brings together complementary operational, human factors, modeling, and analysis expertise, to identify and characterize critical trajectory navigation capabilities, and assess and model these capabilities in representative NextGen terminal area scenarios to exercise the impacts on scheduling uncertainty. The following tasks will be accomplished: A thorough review of past analyses (published and unpublished) of arrival time accuracy and feasible transit time range; Development of stochastic models, for arrival time accuracy and transit time range, that are dependent upon aircraft type and equipage using high-fidelity models, for NextGen capabilities that provide along-path control of flights during the arrival and departure phases of flight; A systematic analysis of time-based scheduling performance through a wide range of mixed-equipage operational scenarios and uncertainty model fidelity levels.
