Description
This is a follow on award for 15 Goes Transmitters capable of interfacing with the E-Sampler and E-Bam smoke monitors. The award was made to FTS Technology, 1065 Henry Eng Place, Victoria, BC V9B 6B2 for $87,500.00. Duns No. 242470466 These transmitters are made by FTS Technologies, 1065 Henry Eng. Place, Victoria, BC and have proprietary protocol (interface) between the monitors. The monitors give data to the transmitters, which in turn transmit the data to the GOES Satellites. The Forest Service can retrieve the data from the satellites at no cost in order to monitor smoke output around the country. The Forest Service has a national cache pilot program with 15 of the Met One E-Sampler and E-Bam smoke monitors that will be used with the FTS GOES transmitters. In order to keep the data reliable it is necessary to use the same transmission configuration which would entail purchasing the same transmitters. I researched on the Internet and contacted several companies and was told that the interface between the Met One monitors and transmitter is proprietary to FTS Technologies. It is my opinion that FTS Technologies is a responsible firm and the Goes transmitters are being sold at a reasonable and fair price. Taking into consideration if there were to be another transmitter, it would entail different maintenance, training and spare parts requirements that would increase the cost of the smoke monitor program.
