Description
The U.S. Geological Survey, New York Water Science Center(NWSC) has a requirement to modify an existing stream-gaging station to raise the equipment above recent flood levels. The existing wooden shelter attached to the top of a poured concrete stilling well shall be removed. The concrete stilling well will be extended six feet higher with masonry block and a new masonry block shelter built atop the extended stilling well. A new walkway with handrails will also need to be fabricated, delivered, and installed to allow access to the new shelter. Some stream-gaging stations in the Schoharie Creek basin were inundated by flood waters during the August 28, 2011 flood (Tropical Storm Irene). The USGS seeks to raise these structures approximately six feet to maximize the probability that these gages will remain functional during future flooding events. Wooden shelter at the USGS stream-gaging station (01351500) Schoharie Creek at Burtonsville, NY, shall be completely removed from concrete well and new shelter shall be built to extend six feet higher than the current shelter (new shelter height will be approx. 14 ft. tall see attachment J 3 photo). New concrete block shelter construction shall include a new steel door with heavy duty pad lock hasp and walkway to access with handrails. All labor, materials, and other associated costs are under the scope of this requirement and are the responsibility of the contractor. The USGS will remove and replace hydrologic monitoring equipment from gage structure
