- synopsis/solicitation The Department of Commerce, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), Physical Measurement Laboratory (PML) has a requirement for a robot, controller, and all necessary cabling and software for its use. THIS IS A COMBINED SYNOPSIS/SOLICITATION FOR COMMERCIAL ITEMS PREPARED IN ACCORDANCE WITH THE FORMAT IN FAR SUBPART 12.6, AS SUPPLEMENTED WITH ADDITIONAL INFORMATION INCLUDED IN THIS NOTICE. FAR PART 13, SIMPLIFIED ACQUISITION PROCEDURES, IS UTILIZED IN THIS PROCUREMENT. THIS ANNOUNCEMENT CONSTITUTES THE ONLY SOLICITATION; QUOTATIONS ARE BEING REQUESTED, AND A WRITTEN SOLICITATION DOCUMENT WILL NOT BE ISSUED. This solicitation is a request for quotation. The solicitation document incorporated provisions and clauses are those in effect through Federal Acquisition Circular (FAC) 2005-58. The associated North American Industrial Classification System (NAICS) code for this procurement is 333298- All Other Industrial Machinery Manufacturing. This is a full and open competition. BACKGROUND NIST has a major facility for measuring the infrared optical properties of materials. The measurements require remote controlled motorized motion of samples and other hardware. NIST is upgrading its capabilities to include more elaborate and complicated manipulation of samples, which requires the use of a 6-axis multiple joint robot. This request is for a robot, controller and all necessary cabling and software for its use. Please see the attached document titled "synopsis/solicitation" for further details.
