Description
AMENDMENT 0001 - QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS AMENDMENT IS TO POST THE FOLLOWING VENDORS QUESTIONS WITH GOVERNMENT RESPONSES. Question #1: We do not provide the sill plates. I am assuming that they will be provided by someone else. Response: Park is responsible for abutment and sill plates. We will require your specifications for the sill plates in advance of bridge delivery. Question #2: Deck width will be 72" inside face of post to inside face of post at deck level. Structures width shall not exceed 96"? Not clear what this refers to - can you explain? Response: Need a minimum of 72-inch inside clearance but not to exceed 96-inch outside bridge width. Question #3: We recommend not using a cable (steel or Kevlar) in this application due to the low temperature range, i.e., -40 F. Use the standard truss configuration. Response: Cable not required as long as other loading requirements are met. Question #4: We cannot provide a 1% camber on your bridge structure as this would require us shipping the trusses fully assembled to Alaska. Dead load only camber can be provided. Response: Provide structure to meet camber requirements with proposal documents. Provide instructions (with proposal documents) on how the camber can be provided during final construction and installation. Bridge shall be preassembled at the factory prior to shipping and the camber set at that time. Question #5: 40,000 lbs. center span live load? What is this? Response: 40,000 lbs. center span live load requirement deleted. Question #6: We can satisfy the following criteria if each load acts individually (not together/combined). Trail dozer or excavator - 12,000 lbs (assumed at midspan of the structure); 3 utility terrain vehicles at 3,750 lbs (total 11,250 lbs distributed at the quarter points of the structure); 3 snow machines or sleds at 1,600 lbs each (total 4, 800 lbs distributed at the quarter points of the structure); 15 pedestrians at 200 lbs each (total 3,000 lbs evenly distributed); Uniform live load equal 85 psf (85)(70)(6) equal 35,700 lbs uniformly distributed; Wind load under AASHTO is 35 psf on one side of an open structure (assumed to be enclosed); Seismic criteria - needs to be determined for your region due to the sustained snow load condition. Response: These load requirements can be assumed to act individually. Vendor to determine seismic load based on International Building Code for geographic area (Slana, Alaska). Question #7: Minimum snow load equal 100 psf - (70)(6)(100) equal 42,000 lbs assumed to be sustained (62)(6)(100) ex 37,200 on the clear span structure (sill to sill equal approximately 62'-0"). If this is a sustained design snow load we do not recommend a fiberglass structure for your proposed bridge. Creep/relaxation characteristics have not been verified for this amount of sustained snow load on your proposed span length. Tests we have conducted to date in conjunction with the U.S. Forest Service have only tested a fiberglass structure with a sustained load of approximately 27,000 lbs. This structure was approximately 45'-0" in length and was installed at the base of Mt. Ranier. It has performed well over the years but is a shorter structure with a significantly lighter sustained snow load (30% less) than your proposed design. In your case you could either reduce the design snow load condition or shorten/reduce the width of the structure to lighten the sustained load condition. Response: Snow load requirement shall be reduced to 70psf. Question #8: Will the Park Service be employing Trails Unlimited for the installation of the bridge? Response: As stated in paragraphs 1.0 and 9.2 of the solicitation, assembly and installation of the bridge is a responsibility of the Government and is not a part of this acquisition effort. Question #9: You specified a color of gray, do you want the FRP to be fire retardant? Response: No. Question #10: What is the depth limitation below the abutments for hydraulic and freeboard clearance? Response: 4 feet Question #11: What is the height limitation above the abutments? Response: N/A. There is no physical restriction, but prefer to remain below 15 feet and we do require a clearing height over the deck of 12 feet. Question #12: What is the height limitation above the deck? Response: see response to question #11. IMPORTANT: OFFEROR SHALL ACKNOWLEDGE AMENDMENT #0001 WHEN SUBMITTING OFFER. THIS AMENDMENT DOES NOT CHANGE THE RESPONSE DUE DATE OR TIME AND REMAINS WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 8, 2012 AT 4:00 P.M. ALASKA TIME. END OF AMENDMENT 0001
