- This project will treat adverse impacts of dispersed recreation on steam and reparian areas in municipal watershed through decommissioning or reduction of footprint. This project will resore water quality, re-establish native plants and restore fish habitat. All work will take place along Elk Creek, just north of the town of Elk River, ID adjacent to National Forest System Road 382. The work sites are scattered nine miles upstream of Elk River. Approximately 25-30 work sites. Through use of various physical barriers and control measures, dispersed campsites will be modified through on or more of the following methods: Embedding and placing boulders - Boulders (obtained by contractor) will be transported to site, staged and embedded at predetermined locations. Boulders will be no smaller than 4' x 4', embedded to 50% of their size, backfilled and stabilized. Boulders will be placed 30" apart from each other or pre-determined on-site control poionts (existing trees/rocks). ONe opening per site will be allowed to remain at 36". Constructing and installing jack leg (or other agreed upon) fencing - Fencing (obtained by contrator) will be transported to site, staged and installed at pre-determined locations and according to technical specifications. Decompaction of campsite - Pre-determined areas will be identifed for decompaction of soil. Technical specifications will be provided for depth of decompaction required. Scarification of campsite - Where decompaction is not feasible, scarification of certain locations will be prescribed. Technical specifications will be provided for depth of scarifictation request. Planting of vegetation - Vegetation (obtained by contractor) will be planed at sites with species, spacing, etc. to be provided in technical specifications. Seeding - Seed will be planted at sites with species, spacing, etc. to be provided in technical specificaitons. Work will commence in the fall of 2012, with the project continuing during the 2013 summer sesaon (May through October)
