THIS IS A SOURCES SOUGHT NOTICE ONLY and a SOLICITATION IS NOT CURRENTLY AVAILABLE. This notice is for information and planning purposes only and shall not be construed as a solicitation or an obligation on the part of the Government. This request for capability information does not constitute a request for proposals. Submission of any information in response to this market survey is purely voluntary. The government assumes no financial responsibility for any costs incurred associated to this request for capability information. USDA, ARS, NADC is seeking a contractor to provide a seed counter/treater to enhance shelling and treating operations at Plant Introduction Station, 1305 State Ave., Ames, IA 50014. The machine best meeting these needs should have the following capabilities: 1. Ability for seed counter to change count each cycle and communicate with the treater to apply appropriate chemical treatment based upon actual counted number of seed lot. 2. Ability for seed counter to automatically cleanout counting tray after required seed count has been sent to treater. 3. Ability for seed counts thresholds to be set so that chemical treatment is not applied if seed count is below minimum set by operator. 4. Treater must be able to treat minimum of 400 maize kernels to maximum of 5 lbs per batch. 5. Must be able to treat minimum of 2 batches per minute depending upon batch size. 6. Structure must allow the removal of treater for inspection and cleaning. 7. Integrated stir plate with the ability to support and agitate minimum 1 gallon container of treatment. 8. Ability for data collection linking inputted scanned bar coded plot number to seed count and relevant chemical treatment. 9. Maximum power 120VAC and maximum pneumatic consumption 6 SCFM@90 PSI 10. Seed counter and treater can be operated separately as standalone units if desired 11. USB input for supplied bar code scanner 12. Stir plate attached This sources sought request is being used as a means of conducting market research to identify parties having an interest in and the resources to provide the product(s) required. The result of this market research will contribute to determining whether there are adequate sources available from which to receive competitive proposals for this set aside. The applicable North American Industry Classification System (NAICS) code to be assigned to this procurement is 333111. Submission Instructions: Interested Businesses, with SAM records, who consider themselves qualified to provide the listed products are invited to submit a response to this Sources Sought Notice by 9:00 AM (CDT) August 20, 2012. If your organization has the appropriate qualifications and capacity to produce these products, please provide a complete and current record of your Single Award Management (SAM) listing including DUNS number, Organization name, address, contact name, email address, Web site address, telephone number, type of organization, small business type (if any), etc. Potential sources only submit the minimum information necessary and no more than ten (10) pages. The SAM record does not count toward the 10 page maximum.
