Description
The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), located on the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD, is soliciting contractual support to provide a wide range of technical and support services for the proper care of and use of laboratory animals for our Center of Laboratory Animal Medicine (LAM). These services include but are not limited to animal husbandry for swine, rodents, rabbits, and other species; and providing biosafety level 1 and level 2 support. The contractor will provide a wide range of technical and support services required for the proper care, use and humane treatment of laboratory animals. Functions provided by the Contractor include animal care and husbandry; veterinary and research technical support; cage and environmental sanitation; routine maintenance of animal care equipment and supplies; inventory control, and data entry and management; personnel, animal, and equipment transportation; logistical, clerical and administrative support; and, supervision and management of Contractor staff. The Contractor shall support animal projects involving a variety of experiments and regulatory testing that includes microbiological and biohazard procedures. Research may involve studies of biological active substances, high energy and trauma, stress and performance, and basic biological processes. All contract activities must comply with criteria for accreditation promulgated by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), and conform to policies and procedures for the care and use of laboratory animals by the National Research Council (NRC) Guidelines and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The projected period of performance will be in effect for a base period and four (4) one (1) year option periods. Services should commence on September 28, 2012 through September 27, 2013. The total period of the contract shall not exceed five (5) years. The solicitation will be issued on or about ten (10) calendar days after this publication. The solicitation will be made available on FedBizOpps at https://www.fbo.gov.
