- Description
- This contract action was accomplished using other than competitive procedures because there is only one responsible source due to a unique capability provided, and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements (FAR 6.302-1). See posted J&A for further information. 1.Requirement: The Aberdeen Test Center required a Coordinate Measuring Machine (hereinafter CMM) with three dimensional (3D) Laser Scanning probe and a base unit manufactured by Zeiss. 2.Description of Action: The Government awarded to Laser Design, Inc., a small business registered in CCR [CAGE Code 4NU44]. This action was awarded in the amount of $203,890.00 to: Laser Design, Inc. 45333 Five Mile Road Plymouth, MI 48170 Description of Supplies/Services: The Aberdeen Test Center (ATC) required a Coordinate Measurement Machine (CMM) within their Materials and Measurements Test Branch lab. The subject item is required to replace outdated equipment currently in use at ATC. The contract covers the CMM machine, software, scanning probes, set-up, and warranty. 3.Authority Cited: Acquisition is under the authority of FAR 6.302-1: "Only one responsible source and no other supplies or services will satisfy agency requirements." 4.Reason for Authority Cited: LDI's proprietary software is used to configure the laser probe. Award to the same vendor will allow MMTB to continue using laser probes and software currently owned by the Government. Interchangeability is a strong requirement between all CMM hardware within the MMTB branch. In addition, ATC/MMTB staff is already trained on the Zeiss interface and software, removing downtime for retraining personnel on a new item. Notice of Intent to Award Sole Source was posted to ASFI on 07/19/12.
