Description
BALD MOUNTAIN THINNING PROJECT Sawtooth National Forest, Ketchum, ID IN APPROXIMATELY 1 DAY, THE SOLICITATION FOR THIS COMMERCIAL SERVICE PROJECT WILL BE AVAILABLE TO VIEW AND PRINT. PURPOSE The purpose of this project is to thin and sanitize dense stands of live trees on the Bald Mountain Ski Area to improve overall stand conditions that will enhance tree vigor of existing desirable trees. The end result will enhance long-term forest health and resiliency, reduce the spread of insect and disease and increase glade skiing opportunities by creating park like settings. This project is following recommendations and guidelines found in the Bald Mountain Vegetative Management Plan. SCOPE OF WORK The work involves thinning and sanitizing two stands that totals 24 acres near the upper Warm Springs ski run area on the north side of Bald Mountain. A hand crew will use chainsaws to thin and sanitize the stands to desired conditions (see C.5). The project area is on steep mountainous terrain with slopes averaging (40-50%). Standing dead and downed timber is found throughout the stands making tree felling and travel difficult. Stand 80 was previously thinned up to 7 inches DBH in 2010 and will require additional cutting up to 12 inches DBH to achieve thinning objectives. Stand 114 has not been previously thinned. The Contractor shall furnish all labor, equipment, supervision, transportation, supplies (except those designated as Government furnished), and incidentals to perform all work necessary on the areas specified. LOCATION/ACCESS The project is located on the Sawtooth National Forest, Ketchum Ranger District, and Bald Mountain Ski Area near Ketchum, Idaho. The legal description is: T4N, R17E, Sec. 23. To access the project site, travel approximately 0.25 miles south of Ketchum, Idaho via State Highway 75 and turn right on Serenade Lane to reach the River Run Lodge. From here the project site can be accessed by traveling on a very steep and winding service road for approximately 3.2 miles to the project sites. The Contractor will need to have 4-wheel drive vehicles to travel to and from the worksite. Travel is very slow on the service road and 4-low is required to descend off the mountain. Other service vehicles will also be encountered on the service road along with hikers and mountain bikers so driving safely is important. PERIOD OF WORK The period of performance will be 45 Calendar Days. Estimated start date is September 10, 2012. CONTACT JIM RINEHOLT, (208) 727-5021 FOR MORE INFORMATION. NAICS Code: 115310 Size Standard: $7.0 This proposed procurement is a TOTAL SMALL BUSINESS Set-Aside.
