Description
Contracting Office Address Department of Health and Human Services, National Institutes of Health, National Cancer Institute, Office of Acquisitions, 6120 Executive Boulevard, EPS Suite 600, Room 6074, Rockville, MD 20852, UNITED STATES. Description The National Cancer Institute requires a Brand name or equal Carl Zeiss Axio Observer microscope with the following salient characteristics. This is a combined synopsis/solicitation for commercial items, prepared in accordance with format in FAR 12.6 as supplemented with additional information included in this notice. This announcement constitutes the only solicitation and a written solicitation will not be issued. This solicitation/request for quote: No. RFQ-NCI-120173-EB includes all applicable provisions and clauses in effect through FAC 2005-53 (August 4, 2011) simplified procedures for commercial items. The North American Industry Classification Code is 334516 and the business size standard is 500 employees. The Zeiss Axio Observer microscope will be a part of a larger optical system in the Systems Biology of Gene Expression Section in the Laboratory of Receptor Biology and Gene Expression designed to interrogate gene expression at the single molecule level in living cells. As such, the microscope must be sensitive enough to detect single photons from biological samples, necessitating optics and objectives with high efficiency in the UV, visible, and infrared regions of the electromagnetic spectrum. The microscope must be mechanically stable for long time-lapse measurements. The microscope must be adaptable to multiple sources of excitation, including laser excitation, mercury arc-lamp excitation, and metal halide excitation. The microscope must be compatible with cameras from multiple manufacturers. There must be technical support which is readily accessible in a timely and convenient manner. Finally, the microscope should be compatible with existing microscopes in the NCI Microscopy Core Facility. REQUIRED COMPONENTS: 1. Focus stabilization must be fully integrated into hardware. System must allow touch control from a docking station. 2. System must include a hardware docking station which can control the microscope remotely as well as provide a comfortable focus drive remotely. Unit must be able to sit remotely off of the microscope table for vibration considerations and be positioned near the computer workstation. 3. The user must have access to the infinity space of the optical pathway for modulation and manipulation of the excitation light. This access should be separate from the back port of the microscope. The excitation pathway must be compatible with 164.5 mm tube-length optics. 4. The system must be compatibile with Applied Scientific Instrumentation microscope stages and Mad City Labs piezo stages. 5. The system must have fully programmable ergonomic button control of all motorized features near the focus knobs of the stand for easy control. 6. Z focus drive must be capable of 9.9mm travel range with a 10nm step size. 7. The microscope must have an integrated contrast manager to preset all light and microscope conditions for visual use. 8. The microscope must be stable for long time-lapse imaging. Usually, this stability is achieved by using a stand body made with high pressure casting. In addition, there should be a large mechanical footprint to provide stability from external influences like fluctuating room temperature. 9. The microscope must have the ability to integrate with a structured illumination device in the reflected light path to do wide field structural optical sectioning to eliminate background fluorescence. 10. The fluorescence beam path must be Apo-chromatically corrected. 11. Reflector turret must be capable of laser integration. 12. All hardware must be fully integrated with Micromanager software. BASIS FOR AWARD: Offerors must provide descriptive literature or other materials that demonstrate their offer meets the forgoing requirements. The contract will be awarded to the responsible offeror with the lowest price offer that fully meets the requirements of the solicitation.
