Description
This is a notice, not a request for a proposal. A solicitation document will not be issued and proposals will not be requested. The National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) Station Support/Simplified Acquisition (SS/SA) Branch, on behalf of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) intends to negotiate and award a sole source purchase order to Leica Microsystems, Life Science Division, 1700 Leider Lane, Buffalo Grove, IL 60089 for upgrade for STEDDCW TSC Laser Scanning Microscope. Super-resolution microscopy has enabled scientists to study cellular structures that are too small to be visualized by conventional fluorescence or confocal microscopy. The high laser power needed to achieve this resolution improvement caused rapid photobleaching of the specimens, which precluded capturing multiple images over time or z-stacks. The STEDDCW TSC Laser Scanning Microscope will provide better resolution with lower laser power, thus making the instrument more generally useful. The period of performance is for 12 months. Leica Microsystems is the sole manufacturer of the STED confocal microscope and is the only provider of the parts and technical service for this upgrade. The acquisition is being conducted under simplified acquisition using FAR Part 12 procedures and exempt from the requirement of FAR Part 6, Competition Requirement. This notice of intent is not a request of competitive proposals. The determination by the Government not to compete the proposed contract based upon responses to this notice is solely with the discretion of the Government. Comments to this announcement, referencing synopsis number 2620918 may be submitted to the NIDA, Station Support/Simplified Acquisition Branch, 31 Center Drive, Room 1B59, Bethesda, Maryland 20892-2080 and Attention: Jasmine Snoddy, Contract Specialist.
