Per FAR 6.302-1, the brand name equipment from Psion is the only equipment that will meet the government's requirement. To deviate from the current and established RF platform would create a huge impact on the support personnel at the depot and within the DLA organization. Deviating from the DLA standard would create support issues and has a high risk of delaying shipments to troops in the field. Due to the complexity of the DSS, the required Psion units have been adjusted and proven to interface with the programs designed specifically for these devices.
