Description
Statement of Work OSEL's Division of Solid and Fluid Mechanics participates in the Medical Counter-Measure Initiative project Developing a test method and apparatus to verify accuracy of medical digital thermometers. During a public health emergency, people will be highly likely to monitor their own and their children's health much more closely than under normal circumstances. People will also be more likely to panic, and react rashly if an apparent problem with their child's health arises. Inaccurate temperature measurements will lead to unnecessary emergency room visits at a time when emergency room availability is critical. In addition, inaccurate temperature measurements may also lead to unnecessary prescriptions for antibiotics or other medications, when supplies of those critical drugs are limited. The new knowledge gained from our research will help ensure that home medical equipment, like digital thermometers, function accurately to maintain effective medical services during times of emergency.
