- GENERAL OVERVIEW OF THE Statement of Objectives Title of Contract: Pain Management-Registered Yoga Teacher Background: According to the Department of Veterans Affairs, Veterans Health Administration (VHA), recent data suggests that a significant percentage of veterans of Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF)/Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF) will experience pain conditions that interfere with daily functioning and adversely affect quality of life. VHA Directive 2009-053, Pain Management, established pain management as a national priority. Period of Performance: September 24, 2012 - September 23, 2013 with one (1), one year option. Statemen of Objectives: The contractor shall be a Registered Yoga Teacher with a developed, systematic and objective approach to yoga programs specifically designed for people with pain, injuries, illness, and trauma. The contractor shall be established in assisting people in reducing chronic pain, managing injuries, preventing future injuries, and achieving a relaxed, physical, and mental state while utilizing physical movement and messages of empowerment. The contractor shall independently provide a thorough assessment of pain and functionality and determine the course of the treatment based on the assessment. The contractor shall independently provide either a one-hour individual and a one-hour group session of the clinically-based yoga class at the Detroit Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center (Detroit VAMC) for a total of two sessions each week for twelve weeks or the veteran may be continued in one-hour individual sessions twice per week for 12 weeks or some combination thereof based on the veteran's session progress and need. The contractor shall independently provide each and every veteran enrolled in the program a one-hour individual session to make the assessment and provide patient education about the course of treatment and treatment expectations.
