- Description
- The Open Source Robotics Foundation will design, develop and deliver an open-source robot simulation software system for use by the DARPA Robotics Challenge program. The contractor will be required to develop validated models of robots (kinematics, dynamics, and sensors) and field environments (three-dimensional surfaces, solids, and material properties); physics-based models of inertia, actuation, contact; and environment dynamics to simulate the robot's motion. The Open Source Robotics Foundation will make the simulation software available on an open-source basis, and will host the simulation so that participants in the DARPA Robotics Challenge program can access it freely. Specifically required features and capabilities of the open-source robot simulation software system include the following: •Models the three-dimensional environment •Allows developers to import kinematic, dynamic, and sensor models of a robot •Allows users to send commands (identical to those sent to a physical robot) over a network to and receive data (similar to that received from a physical robot) from the simulated robot •Uses physics-based models of inertia, actuation, contact, and environment dynamics to simulate the robot's motion •Runs in real-time on a server The period of performance will be thirty (30) months from date of award. The statutory authority permitting other than full and open competition is FAR 6.302-1, "Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements," 10 U.S.C. 2304(c)(1).
