- The Naval Surface Warfare Center, Carderock Division (NSWCCD) in Philadelphia is currently seeking sources that can design, furnish, and test automatic, quick response sprinkler heads for use aboard U.S. Navy ships in compliance with Military Specifications for Automatic Quick Response Sprinklers, MIL-S-24686. All sprinkler heads must be able to meet Navy requirements for shock (MIL-S-901), vibration (MIL-STD-167), and corrosion resistance. The automatic sprinkler heads shall be of frangible bulb type. The sprinklers shall meet sensitivity requirements for quick response sprinklers defined in ANSI/UL 199. A copy of ANSI/UL with detailed information is located at: http://www.ul.com/global/eng/pages/offerings/industries/buildingmaterials/fire/suppression/sprinklers/. The sprinklers shall be leak tight for extended periods of time when pressurized with seawater. The sprinkler shall open as intended and release when the bulb temperature is within the actuating temperature range defined in ANSI/UL 199. The sprinkler head must be able to be installed upright, pendant, or horizontally as required. Sufficient data for demonstrating the sprinkler head capabilities must be included as part of the written submission. Systems not meeting the above requirements based on the information provided will not be considered. This sources sought announcement does not constitute an Invitation for Bids (IFB), a Request for Quote (RFQ), or a Request for Proposal (RFP) and it should not be construed as a commitment of any kind by the Government to issue a formal solicitation or ultimately award a contract. The U.S. Government is in no way liable to pay for or reimburse any companies or entities that respond to this announcement. Any costs incurred by interested companies in response to this announcement or incurred for participation in the pre-solicitation conference will NOT be reimbursed.
