- Description
- The U.S. Geological Survey intends to award to Canberra Industries on a non-competitive basis for the purchase of a Broad Energy Germanium Detector. The action is made in accordance with FAR 13.106-1(b)(1) "Only one source reasonably available." The Broad Energy Germanium Detector and its Lynx Digital Spectrum Analyzer will replace an existing HPGe detector that has an aluminum window that does not allow it to see lower energy peaks, a High Voltage Power Supply, and an Accuspec A (a PC based Multichannel Analyzer (MCA) board that allows the computer to function as an MCA). With its larger crystal and the ability to see lower energy peaks, the Broad Energy Germanium Detector will allow our lab to increase the amount of samples run. The Broad Energy Germanium Detector, its components, and Lynx Digital Spectrum Analyzer will be run in conjunction with two other existing gamma-ray spectrometers and two other existing digital spectrum analyzers (DSA 2000s) by one computer and they need to be fully compatible with existing gamma-ray spectroscopy hardware and software. The Accuspec A board will be rededicated to run a 4 planchet alpha detector. All of the gamma-ray spectroscopy and alpha-ray spectroscopy DSAs and MCAs must be run by the same software. Backwards compatibility for existing.CNF files is also necessary. Canberras Genie 2000 software can operate all existing equipment as well as access and analyze.CNF files. The Broad Energy Detectors cryostat dimensions is exactly the same in all regards to the detector that we are replacing except the detector endcap diameter is larger. This will allow minimal reconfiguration of the existing lead shielding. All responsible sources may submit a bid, proposal, or quotation which shall be considered by the agency. For further information regarding this award please contact Bill Claybrook at bclaybrook@usgs.gov.
