- The Department of the Army, Healthcare Acquisition Activity- North intends to negotiate a Sole Source commercial item procurement with Brainlab, Inc. to provide a Stereotactics System. This proposed procurement is for supplies for which the government intends to solicit and negotiate with only one source under the authority of FAR 6.302-1. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive quotes. However, interested parties may identify their interest and capability to respond to the requirement no later than October 5, 2012, 4:00p.m. EST. A determination by the Government not to compete this proposed contract based on responses to this notice is solely within the discretion of the Contracting Officer. Point of contact Holly Knott, Contract Specialist (Contractor), e-mail: holly.b.knott.ctr@us.army.mil The following verbiage is directly from the Justification and Approval for sole source and is posted in accordance with FAR 5.102(a)(6). This is a Sole Source Justification for a Brainlab Kolibri Stereotactics System for the 60th Medical Group at Travis Air Force Base, California. The Brainlab Kolibri is unique for the following reasons: The Brianlab Kolibri integrates with both the Siemens Arcadis Orbic 3-D C-arm and Karl Zeiss OPMI Vario 700 microscope. This integration provides incredibly accurate models for screw placement in spinal fusion cases while reducing the size of the incision, which in turn is reducing risks for infection, postoperative pain, quicker recovery time and less radiation dosage due to less fluoroscopy used. Images viewed in the microscopes uses navigational overlays to define regions brain tumors to achieve total tumor removal. The Kolibri is also easier to store and use without disruption of the flow of personnel and equipment during cases due to its much smaller footprint while allowing greater ease in visualizing the navigation screen. This is a huge benefit to these patients to decrease time under anesthesia.
