Description
EPP has three components: 1) Monitoring and direct support for Energy Projects and Activities in the areas of generation and transmission; 2) Advising and providing direct support to the Ministry of Water and Power and Power (MWP), the Planning Commission (PC), and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Resources (MPNRP for Energy Sector Reform; and 3) Performing due diligence on new projects being considered for USG support, specifically in the transmission and generation infrastructure. This funding increase will allow the addition of resources to all three EPP components, in generation, transmission, and policy and power sector reform. The additional high visibility and high impact activities include the contracting of an liquefied natural gas (LNG) advisor to assist the GoP in importing LNG as a short-term solution to add power to the grid; consulting services and equipment to monitor and improve the efficacy of the GoP's thermal generating plants (GENCOs) to improve output in the short-term; and consulting services to assist the National Power Control Center (NPCC) to improve its functions and reduce the incidence of unscheduled load shedding in the short term. In addition, EPP will also support improvement to the transmission system of the Signature Model DISCO and the Turnaround DISCO (in PESCO) by providing consulting services and equipment to improve transmission at NTDC and the two critical DISCOs.
