- Description
- The Maintenance Support Device (MSD) system, the At-platform component of the Integrated Family of Test Equipment, is the Army's general purpose knowledge-based standard automatic test equipment that is used throughout the Army at all levels of maintenance to test and diagnose highly complex communications and electronic equipment, missiles, aircraft, and ground vehicles to identify failed line replaceable units (LRUs). The system is a compact, lightweight, and man-portable unit that accesses Army systems' diagnostic information across a multitude of platforms, utilizing wireless and wired connections. Maintainers also use the MSD to host Interactive Electronic Technical Manuals and/or specific application software, to upload/download mission data or software to weapon systems, and to connect to the logistics information enterprise. For acquisition planning purposes, the Government is interested in exploring both existing and potential technologies for the next generation of the rugged and non-rugged MSD system that is industrial, computer-based, commercial-off-the-shelf diagnostic equipment. The MSD hosts software and controls peripheral hardware that is able to interface with existing weapon systems data buses and perform testing of Army systems in applicable operational environments.
