Description
The National Library of Medicine (NLM), National Institute of Health (NIH) has a requirement to procure a rare book on a sole source basis with Richard C. Ramer Old and Rare Books 225 East 70th Street. Suite 12F. New York, New York 10021-5217. This procurement is being conducted under Simplified Acquisition Procedures in accordance with FAR Part 13.The North American Industry Classification System Code (NAICS) is 511130 (Book Publishers) and the business size standard is 500 employees. The History of Medicine Division (HMD) needs to acquire this rare book, by Ximeno [or Jimeno], Pedro, titled" Dialogus de re medica compendiaria ratione, præter quædam alia, universam Anatomen humani corporis perstringens, summé necessarius omnibus Medicinæ canditatis" (Valencia: Per Ioannem Mey Flandrum, 1549). Written by Vesalius's student Pedro Jimeno, this book is the first and only edition of the first Spanish book based on Vesalius. Jimeno's activities were the foundation of the Valencian School of Anatomy and the Vesalian movement in Spain. This book was the first text on anatomy after Vesalius's own De humani corporis fabrica (1543) to incorporate the new morphology completely. It is a succinct summary of Vesalius's work and it also presents the results of Jimeno's own work. NLM has determined that Richard C. Ramer is the only known source to NLM can provide this requirement. HMD has not found this book listed in the United States. NLM anticipates that an award will be made on or about November 19, 2012. This is not a solicitation for competitive quotations, nor is a RFQ available. However, if any other interested party believes that it can meet the requirement it may submit a statement of capabilities. The capability statement and any other information furnished must be in writing, and must contain material in sufficient detail for NLM to determine if the party can meet all of the foregoing requirements. Capability statements and related materials must be received in this office by 1:00 PM local prevailing time on November 7, 2012.
