Description
Contractor shall create a user-level forensically sound read-only implementation of the exFAT file system. This implementation shall be integrated with Version 3.2.3 of The Sleuth Kit (initially) and the version of The Sleuth Kit that is current at the time of final delivery. Code developed by the contractor shall be made freely available and will be licensed on terms that are similar to and consistent with existing Sleuth Kit. Specifically, the mmls command will be modified to list exFAT partitions; the fsinfo command will be modified to print information about exFAT file systems; the fls command will list exFAT directories; and the icat command will output the contents of exFAT files. Other SleuthKit commands will be modified as appropriate. End users will not be required to license Microsoft technology or intellectual property in order to make legal use of the contractor ™s code. Code shall be delivered with 5 public release disk images that can be used for tool testing and validation. These images will demonstrate 1) normal file recovery; 2) recovery of deleted files from an allocated directory; 3) recovery of deleted files from a deleted directory; 4) recovery of files and metadata from a disk that has been reformatted as a FAT file system; 5) recovery of files and metadata from a disk that has been reformatted as a NTFS file system. Contractor must provide a written explanation of each recovery operation that inherently cannot be performed as a result of the exFAT architecture. The images will be self identifying in that each file and directory will have a distinct name, and every file will have a distinct set of contents. An answer key will be provided with the disk images.
