Description
This is a synopsis. This requirement is unrestricted, full and open competition. The Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences (USUHS), located on the campus of Naval Support Activity Bethesda, MD (NSAB), intends to solicit a request for proposal for animal caretaker services to support our Center of Laboratory Animal Medicine (LAM). Services for this seven day a week requirement include, but are not limited to, animal husbandry (for swine, rodents, rabbits, and other animals), and Biosafety Level 1 and 2 support. The contractor will provide a wide range of technical and support services required for the proper care, use, and humane treatment of laboratory animals. Functions provided by the contractor may include handling and restraint of animals; cage and environmental sanitation; routine maintenance of animal care equipment and supplies; inventory control and data entry; animal and equipment transportation; and logistical, clerical, and administrative support. The Contractor shall support animal projects involving a variety of experiments and regulatory testing that includes microbiological and biohazard procedures. Research may involve studies of biological active substances, high energy and trauma, stress and performance, and basic biological processes. All contract activities must comply with criteria for accreditation promulgated by the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC), and conform to policies and procedures for the care and use of laboratory animals by the National Research Council (NRC) Guidelines and the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences. The projected period of performance will consist of a base period, and one (1) option year. Services should commence on or about February 1, 2013, through January 31, 2014. The total period of the contract shall not exceed two (2) years. The solicitation will be issued on or about fifteen (15) calendar days after this publication. The solicitation will be made available on FedBizOps at https://www.fbo.gov.
