SCOPE WORK ITEM 1: Shower Stall Renewal 1. SCOPE 1.1 Intent. This work item describes the requirements for the Contractor to preserve and restore the berthing shower stall(s) and shower pan(s) in various locations. 1.2 Government-furnished property. None. 2. REQUIREMENTS 3.1 General. 3.1.1 CIR. None. 3.1.2 Tech Rep. Not applicable. 3.1.3 Protective measures. The Contractor shall take protective measures in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.3, as applicable, in addition to all other requirements that may be specified in individual work items, to prevent contamination and surface damage of non-affected shipboard equipment, components, and spaces. 3.1.4 Interferences. The Contractor shall handle all interferences in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0000, paragraph 3.3.5 (Interferences). Known interferences include, but are not limited to the below-listed: • Shower heads. • Plumbing. • Insulation. 3.1.5 Ultrasonic thickness measurement. 3.1.5.1 Where specified in Table 3.3.A below, the Contractor shall perform 30 thickness measurements of surfaces, in locations designated by the Coast Guard Inspector. Ensure that the ultrasonic apparatus, procedure requirements, and report shall be in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740, and that the report results shall additionally include the following information for each test point: • Location. • Original metal thickness. • Measured metal thickness. • Percent deterioration (calculation is based on the original metal thickness). 3.1.5.2 Perform ultrasonic equipment standardization in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740. 3.2 Work Location(s). The concerned work area(s) are Compartments 3-72-2-L, 2-70-3-L and 2-75-0-L. See the Coast Guard Drawings above and the photos below, for guidance and details. 3.3 Shower head removal. 3.3.1 The existing shower head and valves are suspended in the shower stalls from the hot and cold potable water piping which enters through the overhead of the shower stall. There is silicone sealant around the penetration to prevent water leakage into the overhead above the shower stall. 3.3.2 Disconnect, remove and scrap the existing shower head and water control valve assemblies. The water control valve assembly is connected to the cutter's hot and cold potable water piping using union end fittings. Cap the pipe ends to prevent contamination from entering the potable water system. 3.3.3 Unsweat the union fittings on the ends of the hot and cold potable water supply lines to the shower head. After renewal of the shower stalls, reinstall the union fittings. 3.3.4 After renewing the shower stalls, install new Contractor Furnished shower heads and control valve assemblies. Flush the assemblies upon reinstallation to remove any contamination. 3.3.5 Apply new sealant to the overhead of the shower stall where the potable water piping penetrates. 3.3.6 Demonstrate proper operation of the showers to the Coast Guard Inspector. Demonstrate that the flow from the shower head is unobstructed and that there are no leaks in the piping. 3.4 Shower stall removal. 3.4.1 Renew metal in shower stalls. Retain the shower drain (s) and ensure all deck openings are plugged as to prevent contamination of the drain system. Ensure deck drain(s) is/are not damaged in the process. Picture of shower head and mixing valve can be seen in Figure 01. 3.4.2 Remove and scrap all existing deck covering systems from the shower stall(s) taking care not to disturb surrounding layers or materials. Disposal shall be in accordance with all local, state, and federal laws and regulations. 3.4.3 Power tool clean to bare metal all steel decks in the work areas in accordance with SSPC-SP 11. Surfaces shall be completely free of corrosion products, mill scale, dirt, oil, grease, moisture, deteriorated paint, and other surface contaminants. 3.4.4 In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, conduct a visual inspection of all clean decks, bulkheads and overhead in the work areas. 3.4.5 Inspect all expose decks, bulkheads, piping and drains for corrosion and deterioration. Submit a Condition Found Report to the Coast Guard Inspector reporting the results of the inspection. 3.4.6 Prior to installing new underlay in the shower stall area specified in 3.4.7, prime and paint the deck. The correct primer and paint is specified in the Product Data Sheet of the underlayment. Follow guidance given in COMDTINST M10630.3. 3.4.7 Install polymeric deck covering system in the work areas in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 6341. Polymeric system shall conform to MIL-PRF-24613, Type I Class 2, Epoxy. Slope the underlayment to the deck drain. 3.5 Shower drain removal. 3.5.1 Remove shower drain and retain drain for reinstallation. 3.5.2 In the presence of the Coast Guard Inspector, visually inspect the drain, piping and trap for corrosion and deterioration. 3.5.3 Submit a Condition Found Report to the Coast Guard Inspector if any of the drain components need renewal. 3.5 Touch-up preservation. The Contractor shall prepare and coat all new and disturbed exterior and interior surfaces to match existing adjacent surfaces, in accordance with COMDTINST M10360.3, Appendix A (Cutter and Boat Exterior Painting Systems) and Appendix B (Cutter and Boat Interior Painting Systems), respectively, and as applicable. Abide by all touch-up requirements outlined in SFLC Std Spec 0000, Appendix A (Requirements for Preservation of Ship Structures). 3.7 Shower stall installation. 3.7.1 The Contractor shall provide and install new shower stall partitions, sheathing, towel bars and soap dishes which look the same as the ones currently installed. Use all new fasteners. Caulk all seams requiring caulking with a moisture cure polyurethane based caulking, 3M 5200, Sikaflex or equal. 3.7.2 New plating shall be of similar material and mechanical properties as the adjacent material. 3.7.3 Submit a Condition Found Report to the Coast Guard Inspector if additional repairs or additional plating removal are required. 3.7.4 Ensure that any welding does not warp or cause any distortion to adjacent plating. 3.8 NDI. The Contractor shall perform NDI of the plate renewal in accordance with SFLC Std Spec 0740, Appendix C. Submit a CFR. 4. NOTES 4.1 Contract Info: Performance Period: 02Jan-25Jan13 Work Hours: Mon-Sat, 0700-1700 Hot Work: Mon-Fri, 0700-1500 4.1.2 Contractors must arrive on week day (Mon-Fri) when starting the contract. This is to ensure all the required Coast Guard personnel are available for the arrival conference (1st meeting of the contract.)
