Description
The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) has a requirement to conduct projects on invasive pythons, with a focus on southwestern Florida. The purpose of this project is to conduct research on invasive Burmese pythons in Florida to gain a better understanding of python distribution, detection methods, and movement behavior. This field work involves conducting surveys along a levee at Rookery Bay National Estuarine Research Reserve in which removal efforts can be reliably assessed because python numbers at this site appear to be peaking and public access is restricted. Additionally, field work will be conducted along a western portion of Tamiami Trail in an area where hatchlings have recently started showing up. The assessment of the effects of python removal along levees will utilize radiotelemetry, and the project will be pursued using VHF tags and ground telemetry at Rookery Bay NERR. Four to six pythons will be radio tagged and tracked weekly from winter 2013 through summer 2013. The USGS intends to award a sole source purchase order to Mr. Paul Andreadis. Based on information available at this time, and in accordance with 41 U.S.C. 253(c)(1), this purchase will be made under Simplified Acquisition Procedures and Other Than Full and Open Competition as authorized by FAR 6.302-1(a)(2)(ii), Only One Responsible Source and No Other Supplies or Services Will Satisfy Agency Requirements. This notice of intent is not a request for competitive proposals. However, should additional sources be identified, they will be considered solely for the purpose of determining whether to conduct a competitive requirement. Firms who feel that they can furnish the required services are invited to submit in writing an affirmative response to this announcement, and such other materials which correspond to the required items stated herein. This information will be evaluated and used to determine if competitive opportunities exist. Since no solicitation document exists, requests for such documents with/without accompanying information will be acknowledged; however a solicitation will not be provided. Affirmative response shall be received by this office by close of business December 27, 2012 by 3:00 PM Mountain Standard Time. This notice may represent the Government's only official notice of this procurement.
