- Description
- The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Acquisitions Management and Operations Branch (AMOB) is seeking small business sources that can produce and deliver adult worms and cercariae of Schitosoma mansoni. The successful offeror MUST be able to deliver worms and cercariae to the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland within one (1) hour or less after they have been harvested to ensure infectivity. Cercariae shall be alive upon delivery and acceptance at the NIH. The Contractor shall be responsible for harvesting and delivering weekly, up to 13,000,000 cercariae annually. For planning purposes, a minimum of 100,000 to a maximum of 250,000 cercariae weekly can be estimated. Additionally 1 million Schistosoma mansoni eggs (NMRI strain) isolated from liver tissue of infected mice are to be provided each week. All eggs shall be produced in mice (Swiss Webster), infected with cercariae of NMR, PR-1 or other specific strains of Schistosoma mansoni or S. japonicum (S.J. only upon specific special request). For planning purposes, a minimum of 500,000 and a maximum of 750,000 mansoni eggs can be expected to be delivered. Eggs when requested, shall be delivered alive, and on ice within 24 hours of preparation. The NIAID intends to award a one year, fixed-price contract beginning on or about July 1, 2013 with the option for four additional, 12-month periods of performance. Any ultimate contract developed from this notice will be subject to DHHS and NIH regulations regarding the use of animals in research. Note that this is not a request for proposals. The intention of this announcement is to survey the market for potential small business offerors who can meet the referenced requirements as stated above. All interested small businesses including veteran-owned small business, service-disabled veteran-owned small business, HUBZone small business, small disadvantaged business, and women-owned small business concerns must provide a capability statement, in writing, to LaDonna Stewart at lstewart@niaid.nih.gov on or before 10:00am local prevailing time on April 10, 2013. Teaming arrangements are encouraged. (Large businesses should not respond to this announcement at this time as this announcement is currently for small businesses only). All capability statements provided by potential small business offerors must reference similar work that is currently being performed or has been performed in the past by the offeror, and must also reference the offeror's socioeconomic business (size) status. The North American Industry Classification (NIAIC) code associated with this requirement is 541990, and the small business industry size status is $14.0 million.
